Texas F Dillon Mitchell Enters Transfer Portal
Rodney Terry and the Texas Longhorns are losing a big name to the transfer portal, with sophomore forward Dillon Mitchell announcing his intentions to enter both the NBA Draft and the transfer portal on Monday.
Mitchell has quickly put himself on the NBA’s radar after spending the previous two seasons in Austin. He is coming off his best season to date after averaging 9.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Coming out of Montverde Academy in the Class of 2022, Mitchell earned McDonald’s All-American honors and was listed as a five-star prospect by the 247Sports index. He checked in as the nation’s fifth-ranked player, the second-ranked player at his position, and the second-ranked player in the state of Florida.
Should he opt to remove his name from the 2024 NBA Draft and return to college basketball, Mitchell will hit the transfer portal with two seasons of eligibility remaining. The Florida native was listed as the Big 12 Conference’s Most Improved Player in 2023-24, boosting his freshman numbers of 4.3/3.9/0.4 to 9.6/7.5/1.4 as a sophomore.
To say Mitchell’s loss is massive for Rodney Terry’s squad is an understatement at this point in his career. Still, with this offseason shaping up to include one of the busiest portal cycles in college basketball history, Terry should have some options available for replacement.
