Texas G Tyrese Hunter Enters Transfer Portal

Rodney Terry and the Texas Longhorns are losing another big name to the transfer portal, with junior guard Tyrese Hunter electing to enter his name into the portal on Monday.
Hunter has established himself as one of the Big 12’s best guards after spending the previous two seasons with the Longhorns.
Coming out of St Catherine’s in the Class of 2021, Hunter was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 37th-ranked player. He also checked in as the fifth-ranked player at his position and the second-ranked player in the state of Wisconsin.
Hunter started his career with the Iowa State Cyclones in 2021-22 and averaged 11.0 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. In his junior season at Texas, Hunter posted comparable numbers with 11.1 points, 4.1 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game on 45.2% shooting from the field.
Hunter will hit the portal with two seasons of eligibility remaining due to a COVID season in 2020-21. On Monday, Hunter became the second Longhorn to hit the portal, joining sophomore guard Dillon Mitchell. After losing two starters from the 2023-24 season, Rodney Terry will have to work fast to find some new players to fill in as replacements.
