Tucker DeVries, Son of Darian DeVries, Transferring to West Virginia

NCAA Basketball: Morehead State at West Virginia

West Virginia basketball fans received some news worth celebrating on Thursday as Drake transfer Tucker DeVries has announced he will be playing for the Mountaineers and his father, Dariain DeVrises, in 2024-25.

Tucker DeVries isn’t your typical “lucky-to-be-here” coaches kid, either. This is a major addition for the Mountaineers, as the 6-foot-7, 210-pound SG/SF is fresh off a season in which he was named Missouri Valley Player of the Year this past season, averaging 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists for the Bulldogs.

DeVries also was named the MVC Player of the Year in the 2022-23 season, averaging 18.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

Now, with West Virginia’s basketball roster in a total state of flux, DeVries gives the Mountaineers a sold foundation to build around as they try to put pieces together that will result in success going forward.

DeVries is a versatile wing with enough size to be a shooting threat from inside and a dangerous three-point shooter, hitting 36% from deep throughout his career. His combination makes him a player with an NBA future, and now with the chance to play in the Big 12, could shoot up big boards with success in 2024-25.

According to WVSportsDotCom, West Virginia’s roster currently consists of senior guard Kerr Kriisa, senior forward Patrick Suemnick, senior guard Noah Farrakhan, senior guard Kobe Johnson, senior guard Seth Wilson, junior forward Josiah Harris, sophomore forward Ofri Naveh and freshman guard Jeremiah Bembry. Adding DeVries, who has one year of eligibility remaining, gives them one more experienced piece to work with, and a big one at that.
