Darian DeVries and the West Virginia Mountaineers are set to host a late entry to the transfer portal, Sacramento State forward Duncan Powell, on Thursday.

Powell, a 6-foot-8 forward from Dallas, Texas, is entering his fourth year of college basketball after two seasons with North Carolina A&T and one with Sacramento State.

Last season with the Hornets, Powell posted some impressive numbers. The junior forward posted 12.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game in his third season of college basketball. In addition to his impressive scoring numbers, Powell connected on 49.2% of shots from the field and 28.6% from three.

Coming out of DeSoto High School in the Class of 2021, Powell was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 305th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 63rd-ranked power forward in his class and the 19th-ranked player in the state of Texas.

Should he commit to joining the Mountaineers, Powell would join a cast of seven other incoming transfers, including Drake’s Tucker DeVries, Illinois’ Sencire Harris, Illinois’ Amani Hansberry, UIC’s Toby Okani, Fresno State’s Eduardo Andre, Oklahoma State’s Jevon Small, and Washington State’s Joe Yesufu.

While West Virginia will still need to beat out some impressive programs to land Powell, earning a visit at this point in the offseason is a great sign of what’s to come.
