Keshon Gilbert Named Big 12 Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Iowa State guard Keshon Gilbert was named the most outstanding player of the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday.

The Cyclones defeated the Houston Cougars, 69-41, to win the Big 12 Tournament title for the first time since 2019. The Cougars and the Cyclones were the top two seeds in the tournament.

Gilbert, who transferred to Iowa State from UNLV before the season, scored 16 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists in the championship game.

 

Gilbert also scored a team-high 20 points, with seven rebounds and seven assists, against Baylor in the semifinals, along with 12 points, five assists and six steals against Kansas State in the quarterfinals.

Two other Iowa State player were named all-tournament — guard Tamin Lipsey and forward Milan Momcilovic.

Lipsey had nine points in the championship game, along with five rebounds and six assists. He scored 10 points, with five rebounds and six assists against Baylor and had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists against Kansas State.

Momcilovic had 18 points, including four 3-pointers, in the championship game, along with 11 points against Baylor.

Two Houston Cougars were named all-tournament — Jamal Shead and L.J. Cryer.

Shead, the Big 12 Player of the Year, had 10 points, two rebounds and three assists in the championship game. He had a double-double in a semifinal win over Texas Tech — 12 points and 10 assists — along with 12 points and five assists in the quarterfinal win over TCU.

Cryer’s biggest game was a 20-point outing against Texas Tech in the semifinals. He also scored eight points against TCU and seven points against Iowa State.
