West Virginia all-time great Jerry West passed away this morning at 86 years old, the Los Angeles Clippers announced.
The 6-foot-3 point guard played his collegiate career with the Mountaineers from 1957-60 and averaged 24.8 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists through 93 games with the team.
In that time, West led WVU to the national championship game, and was later drafted No. 2 overall to the Minneapolis Lakers in the 1960 NBA Draft.
West represents the NBA logo after a historic basketball career, where he became a 14-time All-Star, 12-Time All-NBA selection, and an NBA champion in 1972. The Hall of Famer earned five All-Defensive teams and cemented his legacy as one of the best players in NBA history.
His storied career goes way beyond his time as a player, as he became the first person ever to be elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame three separate times. Not only was he honored as an NBA player, but he was rewarded for his accomplishments as a member of the 1960 United States Olympic Team.
The final induction of his career will be as a contributor to the game since he has left an impact on the game of basketball that will last forever.
