Coming off a season in which the Iowa Hawkeyes had one of the worst offenses in college football history, Kirk Ferentz’s squad was listed as a favorite to win the 2024 Cy-Hawk game against Iowa State.
Circa Sports provided a first look at some big games in the 2024 season, and the line for the Cy-Hawk game opened up with the Hawkeyes being listed as two-point favorites.
In 2023, Iowa pulled out a win in a low-scoring matchup, 20-13. Interestingly enough, the 20 points surrendered by the Cyclones’ defense was the fourth-most that the Hawkeyes scored in a game last season. With the win, Iowa claimed their eighth win in the last decade of matchups between in-state rivals.
While Iowa didn’t have a ton of turnover this offseason, Iowa State returns the most production of any team in all of college football, with a nation-best 86% of production returning to Ames in 2024. The group of returners features rising sophomore quarterback Rocco Becht, who threw for 3120 yards and a touchdown touchdown-to-interception ratio of 23-8 alongside some incredible players at the skill positions. Iowa earned the ninth-place spot in returning production, with a total of 79% of production returning to Iowa City in 2024.
While the matchup between Iowa and Iowa State is still more than three months away, with a spread of two points determining the outcome of the 2024 Cy-Hawk game, it’s safe to say the matchup will quickly become a hotbed for sportsbetters worldwide.
