Mark Adams to Join Chris Beard’s Staff at Ole Miss

NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga at Texas Tech

A pair of former Texas Tech head coaches are set to reunite in the 2024-25 season, with Mark Adams set to join Chris Beard’s staff at Ole Miss.

After Beard left Texas Tech to fill the job vacancy at Texas in 2021, Adams was prompted and spent two years as the Red Raiders head coach.

Beard accepted the job at Ole Miss in 2023-24 after being fired as the Longhorns’ head coach in January for domestic violence charges filed against him for an incident that occurred with his fiance on December 12, 2022. The charges were eventually dropped after the Travis County District Attorney’s office determined that the felony offense could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Adams, Texas Tech head coach from 2021-2023, resigned from the program after being suspended by the university over “inappropriate, unacceptable, and racially insensitive comments” that he made to the team. Adams allegedly referenced Bible verses about workers, teachers, parents, and slaves serving their masters, which quickly led to his suspension and eventual resignation.

According to a report from KCBD’s Brandon Soliz, Beard’s staff features five of his former assistants who were with him at Tech, including Al Pinkins, Bob Donewald Jr., Brian Burg, John Reilly, and now Mark Adams.

The two are now set to join forces once again in Oxford after Adams spent one season as an assistant coach at East Carolina.
