West Virginia Basketball Adds Tom Ostrom to Staff

NCAA Basketball: Morehead State at West Virginia

Several changes have occurred in the West Virginia basketball program this offseason after the school opted not to bring back interim head coach Josh Eilert.

As a result, former Drake head coach Darian DeVries took the head job in Morgantown after leading the Bulldogs to the 2024 NCAA Tournament with a record of 28-7.

On Wednesday, it was officially announced that DeVries had hired Tim Ostrom as an assistant coach. Ostrom coached with DeVries the last two seasons at Drake.

However, his coaching experience goes way beyond the last two seasons, as he served as an associate head coach at Indiana University from 2017-21, and before that, a six-year stint as an assistant coach with the Dayton Flyers.

He was part of the 2014 Dayton team that made it to the Elite 8 and made three other NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure.

His 25 years of coaching experience includes stops at Arkansas, South Alabama, and Florida under former head coach Billy Donovan.

The Mountaineers looked to rebuild after finishing last in the Big 12 last season with an overall record of 9-23. They revamped their roster with several transfer additions, such as Tucker DeVries (Drake), Jayden Stone (Detroit), and Javon Small (Oklahoma State), along with Illinois transfers Amani Hansberry and Sencire Harris.
