Kansas State Lands North Texas Transfer Tylor Perry
Kansas State picked up one of the best transfers on the market on Tuesday as former North Texas point guard Tylor Perry announced is commitment to the Wildcats.
Perry had his list of prospective schools down to four — Kansas State and Texas Tech in the Big 12, along with Florida and Ole Miss in the SEC. He had recently visited the Rebels, now led by former Texas head coach Chris Beard, and the Wildcats, led by coach Jerome Tang.
Perry’s former UNT coach, Grant McCasland, is now the head coach at Texas Tech.
The Wildcats have not been that active in the transfer portal so far this offseason. In fact, Perry is the first transfer to commit to the Wildcats, who are coming off a run to the Elite Eight in Tang’s first season as coach.
Perry could serve as a replacement for guard Markquis Nowell, who is heading for the NBA Draft next month.
Perry was named the Conference USA Player of the Year while averaging 17.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game and shooting 43.7 percent from the field, including 41.3 percent from beyond the arc.
The National Invitation Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, Perry carried the Mean Green to the NIT Title when the Mean Green took down UAB 68-61 in the title game.
Perry’ was a two-time Conference USA First Team All-Conference selection, the 2022 Conference USA Sixth Man of the Year, 2022 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Classic MVP.
Perry appeared in 66 games over his two seasons in Denton, starting 36 of those. He averaged 15.3 points, 3.2 boards and 2.3 assists per contest.
