Watch: Texas Softball’s Underwhelming Reaction to NCAA Tournament Seeding
Texas was one of four Big 12 programs to hear their names called on Sunday during the NCAA Softball Tournament Selection Show, grabbing the No. 13 overall seed and a chance to host a regional this upcoming weekend in Austin.
With the Austin Regional set, Texas will host Seton Hall, Texas A&M, and Texas State to determine who will move on into Super Regionals.
However, the Longhorns must not have gotten the memo that this was a good thing, based on their reaction Sunday night.
Take a look at Texas’ reaction, or a lack thereof rather, when their names were called as the No. 13 seed.
Now, last season’s team was snubbed a seed at all, making them a road team from the get-go. The chip on their collective shoulder got them through Seattle and Fayetteville and into the Championship Series of the Women’s College World Series.
This year’s team certainly didn’t look happy to be the 13-seed, and perhaps that will help them get things back on track this postseason after they’ve lost four of their last six games, including a sweep at the hands of Baylor.
Perhaps they were unhappy that they find themselves seven spots behind Oklahoma State, who they swept just a couple of weeks ago? The Cowgirls were slotted as the No. 6 seed despite losing 11 of their last 13 games.
Whatever the issue is, they’ll need to harness it and focus on the task at hand. With Texas A&M and Texas State in Austin, it won’t be easy to make it out of there, plus a Super Regional matchup against No. 4 Tennessee won’t be easy either.
