Texas Guard Tyrese Hunter To Return to Longhorns
The Texas Longhorns will not lose guard Tyrese Hunter to the 2023 NBA Draft, as the guard announced he would return for another season on Thursday.
Hunter declared for the NBA Draft last month, but maintained his college eligibility, which gave him the opportunity to return to the Longhorns for a second season, along with a third season of college basketball.
Texas announced Hunter’s return on social media.
Hunter, a sophomore guard from Wisconsin, was a key piece of the Longhorns’ Elite Eight run this season, averaging 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
Hunter is one of a number of former Big 12 players that have declared for the draft, gone through the process, come back and had more success the next season. Kansas guard Ochai Agbaji and forward Jalen Wilson have done that each of the past two draft cycles. Agbaji, in particular, played his way into the first round of last year’s NBA Draft.
Hunter’s best outing of the season came against Kansas State in a Big 12, home-opening 116-103 loss where Hunter scored 29 points and shot 55 percent from the 3-point line.
Hunter started his college career at Iowa State.
The NBA Draft takes place on Thursday, June 22nd in Brooklyn at Barclays Center.
