Colorado AD Rick George: ‘No Truth’ to Rumor CU Could Vote to Leave Pac-12 Next Week
The Colorado athletic director has spoken as rumors continue to swirl around the University’s athletic future.
A tweet from an unknown Twitter user, who has developed a following as being a “Big 12” insider, started to gain traction on Wednesday night when he said, “Heard from a source that Colorado board may vote on leaving PAC as early as Monday.”
That promoted Colorado AD Rick George to respond to the tweet, simply stating, “There is absolutely no truth to this tweet.”
The original tweet appears to have since been deleted, with the user @MHver3, saying, “Sorry for deleting the previous tweet. I don’t normally delete anything. But it was requested by the source who shared the info with me.”
It is worth noting that the Colorado Board of Regents is set to hold a meeting on Monday, April 17th.
The special board meeting is being called “executive session only”. At this point, all we know is that the meeting will take place at 7:45 a.m. But it will absolutely be worth watching as we continue to follow the future of all the Pac-12 teams and how the Big 12 may play a role.
Earlier this week, the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand reported, “The Pac-12’s media rights agreement won’t be completed until late spring or early summer, according to The Athletic college football writers Stewart Mandel and Max Olsen. They said The CW is now in play. We will add this to the conversation around potential defections from Pac-12 to the Big 12: Watch Colorado.”
There’s certainly a lot of smoke from many sources pointing to Colorado as the possible first domino to fall from the remaining 10 Pac-12 teams, but for now, it’s a game of wait and see.
