Oklahoma Adds Former Michigan DL Phillip Paea

NCAA Football: Big 12 Championship-Baylor vs Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Sooners added a piece to their defensive line through the transfer portal with former Michigan d-lineman Phillip Paea headed to Norman.

Paea played last season with the Utah State Aggies after entering the transfer portal two years earlier as a member of the Michigan Wolverines. The senior DL started the first three games of the 2022 season with the Aggies before an injury would sideline him for the remainder of the season.

Coming out of high school, Paea was listed as a four-star prospect according to the On3 Industry Rankings as well as the 349th-ranked recruit in the 2017 cycle. After playing high school ball at Berrien Springs High, the Michigan native elected to stay local and join the Wolverines. After bouncing around the transfer portal with Michigan and Utah State, Paea is headed for Norman to team up with the Oklahoma Sooners and head coach Brent Venables.

Paea transfers with just one remaining season of eligibility after spending two years in Ann Arbor and two in Logan. Paea came into college listed as an OL and then made the switch to the defensive side of the ball with the Aggies, posting one sack, one interception, and 16 total tackles in two seasons at Utah State. Venables now lands an experienced player that has the ability to develop into a solid contributor in the Big 12 Conference.
