Oklahoma Softball Generates Massive Social Media Impact, TV Ratings at WCWS
The Oklahoma Sooners wrapped up a near-perfect 2023 season with a national title on Thursday night, beating Florida State 3-1 to sweep the Championship Series of the Women’s College World Series.
Despite being one of the most predictable outcomes in recent memory, the Sooner drew plenty of attention from television viewers and social media.
According to Austin Karp of Sports Business Journal, Oklahoma’s historic win over Florida State averaged 1.59 million viewers on Thursday night, up just a bit from 1.58 million views last season during their sweep over Texas in the championship series.
As a whole, the Women’s College World Series (14 games) averaged 1.1 million viewers, up 6% across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2.
In addition to increased television viewership, the Sooners also made a massive impact on Twitter as well. According to Zoomph, the Sooners generated over 91 million impressions on Twitter in just a two-day span, putting their social value for the event at nearly $2 million.
The Sooners’ softball fan base on social media is massive, marking nearly one million followers over all of their accounts. With a third straight national title, it appears that nothing can stop OU right now, on the field or across the internet.
