Pac-12 Pushes Back Own TV Deal Deadline to Late July: Report

NCAA Football: Pac-12 Championship-Southern California vs Stanford

The Pac-12’s continuous struggle to earn a media rights deal this offseason earned another chapter to its history on Friday, with reports of an official board meeting taking place that featured “accelerated” progress on a TV deal.

According to a report from Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger, outside of the accelerated progress on its TV deal, a general framework was reportedly revealed, with intentions of releasing more information by football media day on July 21st, weeks later than originally discussed.

The Pac-12 has had a multitude of setbacks to this point of the media deal life cycle, and without an official TV deal announced, the likelihood of San Diego State joining the Pac-12 by the Mountain West Conference’s exit deadline has dwindled.

Dellenger reiterated the fact that San Diego State will likely be sitting in limbo until a TV deal has been agreed on for the Pac-12, as the conference has stated that it will not entertain any expansion decisions until after a deal has been made.

With rumors of mergers, conference realignment, and expansion on the daily agenda for most fans, the lack of a TV deal for the Pac-12 continues to push forward narratives of potential changes at the Power V level. While conversations around the Pac-12 media deal have found a way to keep us entertained at the more quiet months of the sports cycle, the Pac-12 still has an uphill battle ahead to strike a deal before the 2023 football season kicks off.
