Scott Drew to Remain at Baylor, Shutting Down Louisville Rumors: Report

NCAA Basketball: NIT Season Tip-Off Championship

It’s a wonderful day to be a Baylor Bears basketball fan. The NCAA Tournament begins on Thursday morning, you’re the three-seed in a wide-open region, and your head coach is reportedly sticking around despite all the noise.

According to a report from college basketball analyst Jeff Goodman, Baylor basketball coach Scott Drew will remain with the Bears despite rumors of his name being tied to the vacancy at Louisville.

Drew was Louisville’s top target, per several reports, but will spurn the opportunity to rebuild the Cardinals’ once-mighty program to continue developing the kingdom that he’s spent the last two decades building in Waco (Tex.).

Drew appeared on ESPN Central Texas on Wednesday and was asked to address the Louisville rumors by co-host Cameron Stuart.

“I am locked in on Baylor University,” Drew said. “Baylor has been my family’s home. All of my kids have been born in Waco, Texas. I can’t thank the Baylor community enough for how they’ve loved our family, and we’re hoping we can bring home another championship home to Baylor this year and for many more years. That’s always been our top priority.”

Drew has been the head coach at Baylor since 2003, and turned a dormant program into a winner. During his tenure, Drew maintains a 445–243 (.647) record and has led the Bears to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Drew will lead 3 Baylor (23-10) into this year’s dance against 14 Colgate (25-9) on Friday, March 22. Tipoff is scheduled for 11:40 a.m. CT on truTV.
