One of the most intriguing quarterback situations in the country is what happened at Ohio State over the offseason as former Kansas State signal-caller Will Howard landed with the Buckeyes.
Heading into the spring, Howard appears to be the top dog in the quarterback room as he brings a wealth of experience to a group that lacks another guy with legit starting experience.
While Howard played on a championship-level team at Kansas State–leading the Wildcats to the 2022 Big 12 Championship–the collection of talent that he’s got to work with offensively is the best he’s ever seen. That’s no knock on K-State either, as Ohio State’s offensive depth chart is head and shoulders above pretty much anyone in the country.
This week, Howard threw at the Buckeyes’ Pro Day and caught up with media afterwards. When asked how he feels about things going into Spring Football, Howard gave an interesting answer about his adjustment to life in Columbus (Oh.).
“I feel good about it,” Howard said. “I’m still just taking it day by day. I’m not trying to get ahead of myself and look at the end goal because the day in front of me is what’s most important. Today, it was Pro Day. Tomorrow, it’s Day 4 [of Spring Ball]. So, I’m just trying to get better every single day.
“Some of the routes that we run are a little different. The timing is a little different, obviously. I’m honestly still getting used to the speed of the guys here, but I think I’m adjusting well. I felt like in Week 1, before Spring Break, like practice 1, I was feeling my way through it. Then, in practice 2, I felt so much more comfortable. I think every day it’s going to be more like that.”
With two All-American level running backs in TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, the best wide receiver corps in college football led by Emeka Egbuka and Carnell Tate, and one of the most talented offensive lines in football, Howard has the opportunity to put up career numbers in 2024.
If he can do there, there’s no telling where the former Wildcat will end his season, but there’s a good chance that it will end with Scarlett and Gray confetti.
