Big 12 Soccer Championships Headed to CPKC in 2024 and 2025

After three years in Round Rock, Texas, the Big 12 Women’s Soccer Championship is heading back to Kansas City. With the hype for women’s sports growing at near-exponential rates, the best sports betting apps will soon have odds available for these exciting championships. 

For the 2024 and 2025 seasons, spectators can watch the Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship at CPKC Stadium, home of the National Women’s Soccer League’s Kansas City Current. Kansas City previously hosted the Big 12 Soccer Tournament from 2013 to 2019 at Swope Soccer Village, a small stadium with a capacity of just over 3,000 near the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium. 

Located at Berkley Riverfront Park on the banks of the Missouri River, the 11,500-seater stadium opened in March 2024 and is the first stadium in the world specifically designed for a women’s professional sports team. The symbolism of hosting a tournament for the best up-and-coming women’s soccer talents in the region at such a venue is not lost on Big 12 Vice President for Women’s Basketball & Competition Dayna Scherf. 

“Hosting the Big 12 soccer championship at CPKC Stadium, a facility made specifically for a women’s professional team, is huge as we are dedicated to supporting the growth and advancement of women’s sports,” said Scherf. “The Conference has a history with Kansas City, and we are excited to add another incredible experience for our student-athletes and fans.” 

Despite not having a program in the conference, Kansas City has been a consistent host of Big 12 events thanks to its large population and centralized location between participating universities. The city has been the longtime host of the Big 12 men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, with 2024 being the 24th time KC has held the event. The success of these events has the President of the Kansas City Sports Commission Kathy Nelson excited about what CPKC Stadium could bring for women’s sporting events in the city.  

“The Kansas City Current is showing people around the world what happens when you invest in women’s sports and Kansas City,” said President of the Kansas City Sports Commission, Kathy Nelson. “Over the years, we’ve demonstrated how Kansas City rallies around basketball for the Big 12 Conference, and I know our fans are going to show up for soccer in an impressive way this fall.” 

The 2024 Big 12 Soccer Tournament is set to kick off with 11 teams on October 30th, and last through the championship game on November 9th. Looking at Big 12 soccer rankings, defending regular season champs Texas Tech and defending tournament champs Texas are among the best teams, along with BYU and TCU.
