Oklahoma RB Tawee Walker Enters Transfer Portal

Oklahoma Sooners running back Tawee Walker (29) runs past Oklahoma State Cowboys cornerback Korie Black (2) for a touchdown during a Bedlam college football game between the Oklahoma State University Cowboys (OSU) and the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Okla., Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023. Oklahoma State won 27-24.

Oklahoma running back Tawee Walker is set to enter the transfer portal, as he announced his intentions on Twitter Thursday afternoon.

Walker was the Sooners’ second-leading rusher for the 2023 season, taking 95 carries for 496 yards (5.2 ypc) and seven touchdowns, trailing only redshirt freshman Gavin Sawchuk, who came on strong to end the season and currently has 105 carries for 610 yards (5.8 ypc) and eight touchdowns.

When OU struggled to run the ball early in the season with Sawchuk and sophomore Javontae Barnes dealing with injuries, Tawee Walker became the only consistent threat in the backfield, short of Dillon Gabriel at the goal line.

Walker arrived at Oklahoma as a walk-on and remained as such during his time with the Sooners, but with the kind of consistency and tenacity that he displayed in 2023, there will certainly be a home for him at a Power Five school in need of help in the backfield.

“First and foremost, I want to thank the whole coaching staff at the University of Oklahoma,” Walker said in his announcement. “I want to thank all of the fans, and everyone who supported me through my whole journey. I have loved my time here, and will always love the university. With that being said, I will be entering my name in the 2024 NCAA transfer portal. I believe that is the best decision for me and my family. Once again thank you for everyone who was a part of this journey, and I have nothing but love for Oklahoma.”

Listed at 5-foot-9, 215 pounds, Walker will have one year of eligibility remaining for wherever he ends up in the 2024 season.
