While the Houston Cougars season came to a heartbreaking end on Friday night with the loss of All-American guard Jamal Shead to injury, members of the Duke Blue Devils showed their respect to Shead after the game.
Multiple members of the Blue Devils including Kyle Filipowski, Tyrese Procter, Jared McCain, and more ran into Jamal Shead on their way out of the arena and stopped to shake hands and show support.
The loss of Shead was a major momentum shift in Friday’s game as the Cougars were in the lead and in control. Shead went up for a lay-up with 6:38 left in the first half and severely twisted his right ankle. The replay even showed Shead start to feel the pain as he went up to take the shot.
Shead’s status was up in the air after being helped to the locker room, but was ultimately ruled out after fans witnessed the Texas native wheel himself from the locker room to the X-ray room on a weight-bearing scooter.
While X-rays on Shead’s ankle were negative, unfortunately for both the Cougars and the Big 12 Conference, Houston’s March Madness run is over.
Duke will take on the NC State Wolfpack with a chance to advance to the Final Four on Sunday, March 31st, at 4:05 p.m.
