UCF Offers Contract Extension to Basketball Coach Johnny Dawkins: Report
After a solid first season in the Big 12 Conference, UCF is doing everything in its power to keep Johnny Dawkins happy in Central Florida.
According to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68, Dawkins has been offered a contract extension by the University. Exact details have not been finalized.
In the Big 12 Preseason Basketball Poll, the Knights were picked to finish last in the conference. Instead, UCF went 17-16, including 7-11 in the Big 12, tied for 11th place and that included big wins over Kansas, Texas and Texas Tech, just to name a few.
The Knight season came to an end in the Big 12 Tournament. They beat Oklahoma State in the first round before falling to BYU in the second round.
Dawkins has been the head coach since the 2016-17 season and took the team from the AAC to the Big 12. The Knights best season under Dawkins came in 2018-2019, when they went 24-9 and reached the the second round of the NCAA Tournament as a No. 9 seed before falling short against Duke 77-76.
