Report: Kevin McCullar ‘Getting Better’ After Post-Season Knee Surgery
After starting the year as the preseason favorite to win the National Championship, the 2023-24 Kansas Jayhawks saw their season go south, due largely in part to attrition.
Bill Self’s team spent a lot of time on the court, and in key moments, without their top two players in Hunter Dickinson and Kevin McCullar. Dickinson recently announced that he will return for the 2024-25 season, but McCullar will now test his craft as a professional after running out of eligibility.
This week, McCullar is in Chicago for the NBA Draft Combine, but he won’t be participating in any of the on-court activities. In fact, McCullar was on crutches before he met with the media and disclosed that he’s coming off a knee procedure after his season came to an end.
“I got a knee scope, and everything structurally is good,” McCullar said, according to 247Sports’ Michael Swaim. “But yeah, going through the process now.”
McCullar did get to take his official measurements at the combine, coming in at 6-foot-5.25 with a 6-foot-9 wingspan and an 8-foot-7 standing reach. While he wanted to show what he could do on the court, McCullar said that his current situation wouldn’t allow it.
“It is what it is now,” McCullar said. “I’m on the upward trajectory, getting better.”
The former Jayhawk is viewed as an early second-round pick after his senior year earned him First-Team All-Big 12 honors. McCullar led the Big 12 with 18.3 points per game while shooting 45.4% from the field and grabbing 6.0 rebounds per game.
