Big 12 Baseball Friday Six-Pack: TCU Stays Undefeated While UCF Walks Off USF
Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Friday with a nice six pack.
Best Game
#5 TCU vs USC
The Horned Frogs came into the day undefeated and looked to continue that against USC in Arlington. The Trojans got out to a 2-0 lead early before TCU scored three runs between the third and fourth inning. These two teams would trade leads once again later in the game and in the ninth inning Is where USC started to pull away a bit.
TCU was down by two going into the bottom of the ninth when Chase Brunson drove in a run and Ryder Robinson brought in the tying run to send this game into extras. Then in the bottom of the eleventh inning, Sam Myers ended up being the hero for TCU to walk it off. With the win, TCU moves to 10-0 on the season.
Best Win
UCF
Anytime you can get a win over your in-state rival, you take it. UCF kicked off their series against USF on Friday night and it couldn’t have ended any better for the Knights. The game was tied at two in extra innings and then in the bottom of the tenth inning, Lex Boedicker had the clutch game winning hit for the Knights. It was a great way for UCF to get their weekend started.
Worst Loss
Oklahoma
The Sooners traveled to Las Vegas for a tournament and faced Pitt on Friday night. And much like a bad night at the craps table, it was an evening to forget for Oklahoma. They gave up a whopping 19 runs against a mediocre Pittsburgh team. Hopefully, the Sooners can bounce back on Saturday when they play a talented Cal team.
Friday MVP
Kansas State 2B Brady Day
Brady had a great start to the weekend as he went deep twice against UMass Lowell. His first home run came in the fourth inning and then he hit another in the seventh. He finished his big going 4 for 4 with five RBIs.
Pitcher of the Day
West Virginia RHP Aidan Major
Against Western Kentucky, Aidan pitched seven full innings and didn’t allow a single run to come across. In fact, he only allowed two hits during his time on the mound.
Best Home Run
Kansas State SS Kaelen Culpepper
I feel like Kaelen Culpepper is a cheat code and his swing is just silky smooth. He makes it look easy sometimes even when he crushed a ball like this.
