Former K-State Pitcher Jordan Wicks to Make MLB Debut for Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs elected to call up their 2021 first-round pick on Saturday in former Kansas State Wildcats left-handed pitcher, Jordan Wicks.

Wicks is set to make his major league debut on Saturday when the Cubs take on the Pittsburgh Pirates at 6:15 PM CT at PNC Park.

After being selected with the 21st-overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft by the Cubs, Wicks split time between Double-A and Triple-A baseball, holding an ERA of 3.55, and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.09 in 20 recorded starts.

Wicks steps onto the mound for a Chicago team in the middle of a whirlwind of setbacks in the bullpen with the Cubs ranking 25th in starter’s ERA since the All-Star break, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rodgers.

Jordan Wicks checked in at No. 51 on ESPN insider Kiley McDaniel’s top 100 prospects list, coming into the season, and with pitching struggles working against the Cubs on their way to a potentially playoff appearance, Wicks was given the green light in hopes for a solid outting.

Wicks takes the mound at 6:15 PM (CT) for Chicago as the club looks to take down the Pittsburgh Pirates in hopes of earning the first win of Wicks’ professional career.
