Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders earned more criticism following the conclusion of Big 12 Media Days after labeling Colorado as everyone’s Super Bowl in 2024.
One notable critic, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum, shot down Sanders’ comments and called the Buffaloes “an easy win.”
Finebaum addressed the comments at SEC Media Days on Monday, saying, “There are so many misconceptions out there. Deion Sanders is the best salesman I’ve ever seen. I personally love the guy for what he stands for. But the program looking out has a ridiculously inflated view of itself. I heard Shedeur Sanders, who is a fabulous quarterback, say last week, ‘We are everyone’s Super Bowl.’”
“Shedeur, you are not,” Finebaum continued. “You are an easy win nowadays. You got off to a phenomenal start last year, beating a couple of mediocre teams that had big names. And quite frankly, you haven’t done anything since other than crash and burn.”
After starting off 3-0 with big wins against TCU, Nebraska, and Colorado State, the Buffaloes lost seven of their next eight games, with their lone win coming against Arizona State 27-24. Due to a lack of success on the field, the Buffaloes have earned their fair share of criticism from members of the media, coaches worldwide, and athletes.
Finebaum finished his thoughts with a harsh take on Colorado’s football program, saying, “I know that the media loves this story. We fall all over ourselves. But Colorado isn’t important in college football. Deion Sanders is. He’s a stand-alone person. He’s one of the most charismatic people we’ve ever seen. But Colorado is nothing. They don’t matter. They’re irrelevant in the big picture of college football.”
Sanders and the Buffaloes will have the opportunity to prove Finebaum wrong in the fall when their season kicks off on Thursday, August 29th, against the North Dakota State Bison.
