Kansas State Women’s Basketball 2023-24 Basketball Schedule Analysis

Kansas State guard Serena Sundell.

The 2023-24 Kansas State Wildcats women’s basketball schedule is complete and here is an analysis of the entire schedule as basketball season nears.

Season Opener

Say hello to Presbyterian on Nov. 6 as the Wildcats open the season at home at Bramlage Coliseum.

Fun in the Sun

Down at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla., the Wildcats should get a couple of quality tests. First, it’s a solid mid-major opponent with Western Kentucky on Nov. 24, followed by either North Carolina or Vermont the next day. If KSU beats WKU, then count on UNC and the Wildcats getting a big test from the Tar Heels.

Best Non-Con Game

Undoubtedly Iowa on Nov. 16. The Wildcats return the favor after Iowa came to their place last season and … lost. Yep, the Wildcats fell the national championship game finalists early in the season without center Ayoka Lee in a game that was one of the best non-conference wins of last season for the Big 12.

Mid-Major Danger Game

Don’t take your eye off that game against Little Rock on Nov. 11. The Trojans won 21 games last year and won the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season crown.

Big 12 Opener

Kansas State will travel to one of the four new schools in its league opener on Dec. 30, as the Cincinnati Bearcats and new coach Katrina Merriweather host the Wildcats.

Big 12 Home Opener

Kansas State stays on the new school tip when it hosts Houston on Jan. 3. In fact, Kansas State’s first three games are against new Big 12 schools, with a trip to UCF on Jan. 6 following the Cougars.

Brutal Big 12 Stretch

Kansas State has a long stretch of intriguing games from Jan. 10-Feb. 4 that includes two meetings with Texas, two with Oklahoma and one with Kansas on Jan. 20. This stretch will also feature matchups between Lee and two of the league’s most intriguing centers in Kansas’ Taiyanna Jackson and TCU’s Sedona Prince. Plus, thrown in BYU forward Lauren Gustin and you’ve got some intriguing interior matchups.

What Should Happen?

With Lee back, the Wildcats will formidable, and not just because Lee is back. With the re-emergence of Gabby Gregory as a scorer last season, along with the continued progress of Serena Sundell, Brylee Glenn and Jaelyn Glenn, the Wildcats have a roster that can content for Top 4 status in the Big 12 and make a strong case for the NCAA Tournament. One could even see them sticking around for the second weekend if things break the right way.
