UCF Women’s Basketball 2023-24 Basketball Schedule Analysis
The 2023-24 UCF Knights women’s basketball schedule is complete and here is an analysis of the entire schedule as basketball season nears.
Season Opener
The UCF Knight will open the season at home against another in-state program, the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, on Nov. 6.
Off to Paradise
The Knights will head to San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the Discovery Puerto Rico Classic, to be played at Roberto Clemente Coliseum. The UCF opponents are set — Jackson State, St. John’s and Sacred Heart.
Best Non-Con Game
Getting Auburn at home on Nov. 20 is a bit of a coup for the program and gives it a chance to stretch itself against an SEC school before Big 12 play begins. Auburn went 16-15 last season.
Mid-Major Danger Game
That Jackson State game in Puerto Rico is one to watch. The Lady Tigers were 21-10 last season and won the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a 17-1 record.
Big 12 Opener
The Knights will start the Big 12 Conference slate on the road when they face Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., on Dec. 30.
Big 12 Home Opener
The Knights will start the home portion of their Big 12 Conference schedule against the Sooners’ arch-rival, the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, on Jan. 3.
Brutal Big 12 Stretch
In an 11-day stretch from Feb. 17-28 the Knights have to play Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas and Kansas. Rough.
What Should Happen?
UCF went 14-15 last season, with a 4-11 record in the American Athletic Conference. The Knights reached the second round of the AAC Tournament before they fell to Memphis. Head coach Sytia Messer is entering her second season as head coach, but she knows the Big 12. She worked as an assistant coach under Kim Mulkey when she was at Baylor and followed the Hall-of-Famer to LSU. Messer’s job will be to start turning the Knights into a team that can be competitive with the rest of the Big 12.
