Texas Clinches Big 12 Championship Berth With 57-7 Win Over Texas Tech

NCAA Football: Texas at Alabama

In their final season in the Big 12 Conference, the Texas Longhorns have clinched a Big 12 Championship berth with their 57-7 win over Texas Tech on Friday night.

The Longhorns finished the regular season with an 11-1 overall record, and an 8-1 record in Big 12 play, their best finish since 2009.

Texas will find out who it is to face in Arlington on December 2 on Saturday, as Oklahoma State (8-3, 6-2) can clinch a spot in the title game with a win over BYU (5-6, 2-6). However, if the Cowboys were to drop that game, Texas would get a chance to redeem their only loss of the season, as Oklahoma would get the berth.

The Sooners, now at 10-2 (7-2), took down TCU in a high-scoring affair on Friday afternoon, outlasting the Horned Frogs 69-45 in Norman.

With Oklahoma’s win, Kansas State was eliminated from Big 12 contention, as the Wildcats needed losses from both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to remain in the hunt.

Now the Big 12 Championship will be either Texas vs. Oklahoma State, which has become a rivalry of sorts over the last several years, or a rematch of the Red River Rivalry.

Oklahoma State and BYU are scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff on ABC, with the Cowboys currently favored by 17 points at home.
