Big 12 Baseball Sunday Six-Pack: Oklahoma Sweeps TCU
Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Sunday with a nice six pack.
Best Game
#23 Texas vs Washington
After dropping the first two games of the series, Texas needed a win on Sunday to avoid the sweep. The Longhorns got on the board first with a pair of runs early in the game to take a 2-0 lead. From there they were able to add two more with a fly out and a bases loaded walk by Jared Thomas.
Washington would make things interesting in the eighth inning when AJ Guerrero hit a two-run homer. However, the game had to end early due to travel restrictions which is really dumb, but I can’t control it. Who knows what could have happened, but Texas ended up winning the game.
Best Win
Oklahoma over #12 TCU
After taking game one and game two of the series, the Sooners completed a three-game sweep over TCU on Sunday afternoon. Oklahoma got off to a hot start as they took a 6-0 lead and never looked back at all. TCU did make a late push, but the Sooners were able to add some insurance runs in the ninth inning.
Don’t look now but the Sooners are 6-0 in Big 12 play and are in sole possession of first place. It is time to put them in the top 25 and take them seriously as a Big 12 title contender.
Worst Loss
West Virginia
The Mountaineers came into Sunday looking to take the series and instead they got absolutely demolished by Ohio State. The Buckeyes got 17 hits and scored 26 runs on the day. West Virginia ended up using nine different pitchers in this one any nobody had any luck on the mound. This team is trending in the wrong direction right now and I hope the return of JJ Wetherholt is coming sooner rather than later.
Sunday MVP
Oklahoma 2B Aidan Meola
Aidan had a big day against UCF on Sunday. He blasted a three-run bomb in the second inning before adding two more in the fourth. Meola played a big role in Oklahoma Sate’s win over UCF.
Pitcher of the Day
Kansas State RHP Owen Boerema
Owen pitched an absolute gem against Missouri State. He went eight full innings and allowed just two hits. Boerema didn’t give up a single run and managed to strike out five batters during his time on the mound.
Best Home Run
Oklahoma 1B Michael Snyder
Michael’s solo homer in the fifth inning helped put his team up 6-0 against TCU.
