Iowa State Cyclones Receive No. 2 Seed in 2024 NCAA Tournament
The 2024 NCAA Tournament selection committee has given the Iowa State Cyclones the No. 2 seed in the East Regional.
Iowa State will take on No. 15 South Dakota State on Thursday in Omaha, Nebraska. (Opponent) is in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2022. The winner will play either No. 7 seed Washington State or No. 10 seed Drake.
The Cyclones are fresh off a run to the Big 12 Tournament Title Game, where they ended up blowing out Houston. Iowa State earned the two-seed in the bracket after an impressive body of work, which included wins over the nation’s top seed, Houston, and a 13-5 conference record.
Iowa State finished the regular season with a 27-7 record, including a 13-5 record in Big 12 play.
Iowa State earned a 6-seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament last season but was upset in the Round of 64 by 11-seed Pittsburgh, 59-41.
The Cyclones are led by sophomore guard Tamin Lipsey, who averaged 12.4 points, 4.8 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game this season. He was one of five members of the league named to the All-Big 12 First Team alongside Jamal Shead, Kevin McCullar, Hunter Dickinson, and Dylan Disu.
Iowa State has made 21 NCAA Tournament appearances while reaching one Final Four, plus two Elite Eights (1944, 2000). The Cyclones have an overall record of 21-22 in March Madness.
