WVU Star Tucker DeVries Equipped for Big Senior Season

NCAA Basketball: Morehead State at West Virginia

It seemed inevitable that after Darian DeVries accepted the head coach position for the West Virginia men’s basketball team, his son, Tucker DeVries, would follow in his father’s footsteps.

Despite having several Power Five offers out of high school, DeVries committed to the Drake Bulldogs to play under his father, and it is safe to say that he made the right decision.

Last year, the 6-foot-7 guard finished sixth in the country in scoring with 21.6 points per game. Along with that, DeVries was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year for the second straight season.

Not only is he a prolific scorer, but he impacts the game in a variety of ways since he is a solid rebounder (6.7 RPG) and decision-maker (3.7 APG).

He led the Bulldogs to their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance as a 10 seed before falling to Washington State in the first round.

With DeVries’ game expected to translate to the Power Five level, it is definitely likely that he will find his name on several 2025 NBA Draft Boards.

The rising senior scored over 30 points in four games last season while also tallying five double-doubles. His strongest performance of the season came in a win over the University of Illinois-Chicago when he finished with 39 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists.

After WVU’s disappointing 9-23 record last season, DeVries will play a major role in whether or not the Mountaineers can turn things around in Morgantown.
