In one of the most interesting portal stories so far this offseason, former Utah cornerback JaTravis Broughton has officially elected to transfer to TCU for his final season of eligibility.

Broughton, a four-year starter at Utah, originally entered the portal on January 2nd before withdrawing his name one day later. Once the smoke settled on Sunday, Broughton announced the move to TCU.

Broughton was a reliable part of Kyle Whittingham’s defense in 2023 totaling 37 tackles and two pass breakups. Throughout his five-year career in Salt Lake City, Broughton totaled 126 tackles, nine pass breakups, one sack, and one interception.

Coming out of high school Broughton was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and checked in as the nation’s 837th-ranked prospect. He was also listed as the 74th-ranked linebacker in his class and the 10th-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma.

Broughton became the Horned Frogs 14th addition through the transfer portal this offseason joining Notre Dame NaNa Osafa-Mensah, Vanderbilt’s Ken Seals, Texas A&M’s Remington Strickland, and more.

Utah will now have a new spot to fill ahead of the 2024 season, but with this offseason shaping up to include one of the busiest portal cycles in college football history, Kyle Whittingham should have some options available for replacement.
