The Utah men’s basketball team added former WVU interim head coach Josh Eilert to its coaching staff as an assistant.
Eilert spent 17 seasons in Morgantown, which included plenty of successes, such as 11 NCAA Tournaments and one Final Four appearance in 2010.
He played his college basketball career at Kansas State from 2002-04.
Eilert served in several different positions during his run with WVU, such as a video coordinator, director of basketball operations, and assistant coach. He became interim head coach following the departure of long time head coach Bob Huggins last summer.
West Virginia went 9-23 last season, but picked up major victories over No. 25 Texas and No. 3 Kansas.
He picked up his first career head coaching victory against Missouri State in the 2023-24 season opener.
Utah will be playing its first season in the Big 12 Conference after finishing sixth in the Pac 12 with a record of 22-15 in 2023-24. The Utes were led by center Branden Carlson who averaged 17 points and 6.6 rebounds.
The newly-hired assistant coach joins Craig Smith’s coaching staff, as Smith has a career record of 50-50 in Salt Lake City.
WVU hired former Drake head coach Darian DeVries this offseason.
