UCF Dismisses Head Baseball Coach Greg Lovelady
The UCF Knights baseball team is officially starting the search for a new head coach after news broke on Saturday that head coach Greg Lovelady was being fired by the university.
Lovelady spent seven seasons in Orlando, and after just one trip to the NCAA Tournament in his first year with the team back in 2017, Lovelady found himself on the chopping block for UCF.
Lovelady led the Knights to a record of 33-26 in the 2023 season and a fourth-place finish in the AAC. During his time in Orlando, Lovelady is 225-149 overall and 83-68 in conference play.
UCF athletic director Terry Mohajir thanked Greg Lovelady in a press release following the Knights final game in the AAC saying, “We appreciate all of Greg’s hard work, effort, and commitment over his seven seasons,” Mohajir said. “There’s no doubt he’s a high-character individual. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
The UCF coach got his start at Wright State and in three seasons in Dayton, he led the Raiders to an overall record of 124-56 with two conference championship wins, and two trips to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons. The Knights officially transition to the Big 12 Conference on July 1st, and with Lovelady leaving town, UCF will start their first season in the Big 12 Conference with a brand new head baseball coach.
