The loss was deflating.
It was the longest kick in the history of West Virginia football. And it just happened to be against Texas Tech and just happened to win the game, 37-34 on Saturday.
But, while the loss was emotionally draining for the Red Raiders it does not negate the progress the team made in the first 40 minutes of the game. For 3 1/2 quarters, Texas Tech looked like the team that defeated Arizona State in the Holiday Bowl.
For that, the Red Raiders have DeAndre Washington to thank. Washington was a workhorse against the Mountaineers, rushing 29 times for 138 yards and making the Red Raiders attack balanced for one of the first times in the Kliff Kingsbury era.
