After last year’s 4-8 debacle in Fort Worth, many questioned Trevone Boykin’s role with the Horned Frogs.
Matt Joeckel was brought in from Texas A&M to compete with Boykin for the job and potentially open up a move to receiver for the dynamic playmaker.
Until two weeks ago, the TCU depth chart still listed the starting quarterback as “Trevone Boykin OR Matt Joeckel.” But two months into the season, the thought of Boykin playing receiver is no longer being entertained, and for good reason.
Boykin has put up monster numbers in the first year of Doug Meacham and Sonny Cumbie’s new offense in Fort Worth and has the Horned Frogs in position for a Big 12 title run and potentially a chance at a College Football Playoff position.
The new offense, as well as a commitment by coaches to keep him at quarterback, has made Boykin a star.
