With five games remaining in the 2014 college football season, the Wildcats find themselves atop the Big 12 standings.
The lone blemish on the season came at the hands of Auburn, in which the Wildcats missed out on several scoring opportunities. Since the loss, the Cats have won four straight games including wins over Oklahoma and Texas.
The Wildcats managed to escape Norman, Oklahoma with a 31-30 victory over the Sooners. With under 4:00 remaining, Oklahoma kicker Michael Hunnicutt missed a chip-shot field goal that would have given his team the lead.
Then, last week, the K-State defense delivered its first home shutout over a Big 12 Conference opponent since 1999 in a 23-0 win over the Longhorns. It was the first time Texas had been shutout since 2004.
To continue its run at the Big 12 title, K-State will have go on the road against some challenging competition. The Nov. 8 matchup against No. 10 TCU could prove to be a key factor in determining the Big 12 champion.
TCU currently sits one game behind the Cats in the Big 12 standings. The Horned Frogs boast one of the most potent offenses in the country. On Saturday, the Frogs managed to put up 82 points against Texas Tech, which set a new record for a Big 12 Conference game.
The Baylor Bears are another Big 12 title contender that lights up the score board. In 7 games this season, the Bears are averaging nearly 50 points. Led by quarterback Bryce Petty, the Bears are currently No. 12 in the country. The Bears will welcome the Wildcats to Waco on Dec. 6.
The K-State defense will be tested for the remainder of the season as it will get to experience the offensive firepower the Big 12 is known for.
