As we approach the college football season, many fans are looking for where to place their bets. Which teams are historically solid vs. the spread, which ones aren’t?

Well if history is any indication, there are three Big 12 teams worth taking a close look at throughout the season when it comes to betting teams against the spread.

There are three Big 12 teams who rank in the Top 10 of having the best record against the spread over the last 10 seasons: No. 2 Kansas State, No. 5 Utah and No. 7 Oklahoma State.

Here’s the full listen from sports betting guru Ben Fawkes.

This should come as no surprise given each of these Big 12 teams often find themselves near the top of their conferences, while usually not getting the love they should be getting from national college football media.

And when the national media isn’t giving you that love, the sports bettors aren’t going to be as likely to bet you. Granted, the smart money always finds teams like Kansas State, Utah and Oklahoma State, but not the average fan.

Kansas State went 8-4-1 against the spread in 2023. The Cats went nearly two months without losing a cover. From October 6, when they failed to cover vs. Oklahoma State, the Wildcats covered or pushed in every game until November 18th, when they beat Kansas 31-27, but failed to cover the 7-point spread.

Utah went 6-6-1 against the spread in 2023, despite not having their expected starting quarterback in Cam Rising. Their best stretch came from mid-October to mid-November, when they covered four of five games against Cal, USC, Arizona State and Washington, only failing to cover vs. Oregon in a 36-5 loss in late October.

Oklahoma State went 8-6 against the spread last season during a roller coaster year that ended up with a loss to Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game. The Pokes started off 1-3 vs. the spread before covering five games in a row.

All three teams are expected to be in contention for the Big 12 Championship this fall, so they may not have as many favorable spreads. But if history is any indication, they’ll still be some good bets with these three teams on the board.
