The success of Iowa State running back Aaron Wimberly wasn’t complicated on Saturday.
Give him room, and he’ll gain yards. Wimberly rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown in a 48-45 loss to Texas.
“He had a lot of space to run in on a good bit of those runs,” ISU coach Paul Rhoads said. “That is a big difference. Athletic, fast backs with space are going to make plays.”
And Wimberly made several.
He was the first ISU running back to top the 100-yard mark this season. His 30-yard run was the longest of the season for a tailback.
“The first five games that he played, since he didn’t play (the week before), he never had very much space to run in and credit to our guys blocking and what they created,” Rhoads said. “A credit to playcalling and scheme to help with that and then he did the rest. He did what he is very capable of doing when he got those situations.”
