Sometimes the best things are worth waiting for. Kansas University’s football team routed Iowa State, 34-14, on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium, the first win under interim head coach Clint Bowen.
The Jayhawks (3-6, 1-5 in Big 12) started fast with two touchdowns on their first two drives, and eventually took a 24-0 lead midway through the second quarter.
The Cyclones (2-7, 0-6) fought back with a touchdown a minute before halftime, and another score to open the third quarter, but a missed field goal sparked the Jayhawks, as they drove 80 yards and ended the drive with a one-yard touchdown run from junior quarterback Michael Cummings.
KU recorded 514 yards on offense, including 278 through the air from Cummings, and more than 100 yards on the ground apiece from Tony Pierson and Corey Avery.
After the game, students rushed the field and even took down one of the goal posts in celebration, as the Jayhawks gave Bowen a celebratory gatorade bath.
