Daxx Garman is the short-term answer at quarterback for OSU. But I’m not ready to proclaim him the long-term answer. Even though Garman’s strong arm is what the Cowboys’ Air Raid offense needs, I need to see a little more from Garman. You know, like against a I-A opponent.
Unlike the Big 12, I don’t put much stock in performance against I-AA foes. The Big 12 named Baylor quarterback Seth Russell offensive player of the week and Kansas defensive back Dexter McDonald defensive player of the week. Baylor played Northwestern State of Louisiana. Kansas played Southeast Missouri State. But I prefer to save awards and quarterback evaluations for games against close-to-level competition.
So I’ll wait on saying Garman, and not the arm-challenged J.W. Walsh, is OSU’s best bet at quarterback. Walsh’s leadership and running ability and experience and decision-making can make up for some arm issues. That’s why I want to see Garman against Texas-San Antonio and Texas Tech 12 days later.
