Mark Mangino, Glen Mason to Attend UCF vs. Kansas Game this Weekend

Former Kansas Jayhawks head coach Mark Mangino.

According to a tweet from Kansas football, Jayhawks’ legendary coaches Mark Mangino and Glen Mason will be back in Lawrence for KU’s game against UCF on Saturday.

Mangino was the head coach in Lawrence from 2002-09 and led the Jayhawks to a 24-21 victory over Virginia Tech in the 2008 Orange Bowl to finish 12-1 and ranked No. 7 nationally. He was also the first coach in Kansas football history to lead the Jayhawks to consecutive bowl games.

Mason, who led the Jayhawks from 1988-96, led Kansas to two wins in the Aloha Bowl, including their first bowl win in 31 years in 1992.

Kansas is coming off its first loss of the 2023 season, a 40-14 loss to No. 3 Texas, and will look to turn things around against UCF this week.

The Knights are coming off a heartbreaking 36-35 loss against Baylor, a game in which they held a 35-7 lead before falling apart.

With quarterback Jalon Daniels’ availability being in question heading into the matchup, it might be the second straight week that Jason Bean makes the start. Despite the offense not operating to the same fluidity that it does with Daniels, Bean is more than capable of putting up enough points to get Kansas to 5-1.

Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CT on FOX, with Kansas currently being favored by two points at this time.
