Gannon returns to Cyclones

Jacob Gannon wasn’t himself. He left Iowa State football practice after suffering a panic attack on Sept. 3, but he didn’t know what he was dealing with.

He thought the problem was football. It’s why ISU’s starting right tackle quit the team the next day.

But over the next several days he learned the root of the problem was an undiagnosed anxiety disorder. Eleven days after leaving Gannon returned to the Cyclones on Monday after seeking professional help.

“I thought that I hated playing football because that is what caused the panic attack and then after going to counseling and talking it out I realized that football wasn’t the problem,” Gannon said. “The problem was anxiety and that I loved playing football and that I missed my teammates. I missed the game.”
