Iowa State’s defense had no answers for Baylor’s lightning-quick offense a year ago, when the Bears handed the Cyclones a lopsided 71-7 defeat in Waco, Texas.
On Saturday, ISU’s defense had a shot to redeem itself. While the Cyclones made more stops this time around, the Bears’ speed and precision once again won out as Baylor handled ISU again, 49-28.
“This Baylor team, in my opinion, is better than the one a year ago,” Cyclone coach Paul Rhoads said. “And to do some of the things we did against them, I thought we improved certainly. There’s things we can improve on, we did and now we move forward to the next one and continue to get that done.”
The Cyclones knew the challenge was daunting coming in. Entering Saturday’s game, the Bears’ offense led all FBS schools with an average of 59.3 points a game this season.
The Bears finished the night with 601 total yards.
