Former Houston WR Mikal Harrison-Pilot Transfers to Texas Tech
After spending his freshman season with the Houston Cougars as a wide receiver and special teams option, Mikal Harrison-Pilot transferred to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, according to his Twitter account.
With the Red Raiders, Harrison-Pilot is expected to make the transition to the defensive side of the field as a defensive back. The 5-foot-11 rising sophomore has a ton of upside that can be scary for opposing defenses.
247Sports ranked him as a four-star prospect out of high school, and Harrison-Pilot’s commitment to the Cougars out of Temple (TX) was a major win for UH. He originally chose the Cougars over offers from Oklahoma, Texas, Oregon, Notre Dame, and USC, among others.
Since he was only limited to four games last season, Harrison-Pilot earned an extra year of eligibility. In those games, he saw only 14 snaps, 12 of which were on special teams.
Houston looks to rebuild this season after firing Former Head Coach Holgorsen after five seasons. New Head Coach Willie Fritz has landed several other transfers this offseason, including JD Rhym (Auburn), Devin Williams (Tulsa), Christian Brathwaite (LSU), and Bryan Massey (SMU).
In their first season competing in the Big 12 Conference, the Cougars concluded the 2023 season with an overall record of 4-8. The team opens up the 2024 season, playing host against UNLV on Saturday, Aug. 31, before traveling to Norman to take on the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, Sep. 7.
