Houston Basketball’s LJ Cryer Returning for 2024-25 Season
Houston wasn’t the last team standing at the end of the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, and the loss of point guard Jamal Shead has all of Cougar Nation wondering, “What if?”
The Cougars fell to Duke in the Sweet 16 after Shead suffered a bad ankle sprain in the first half, and what looked to be a nearly sure-fire trip to the Final Four came up short for the Big 12’s top squad.
Now, as Kelvin Sampson and the Cougars set their sights on the 2024-25 season, the main task at hand is to ensure that they’ve got the talent to repeat as Big 12 Champions.
While that means they’ll probably need to grab a player or two from the transfer portal, much of what the Cougars need to make another run is already on the roster, that is, if they can get them back for another year. On Tuesday, the Coogs learned that they will get at least one major part of the roster back.
Star shooting guard LJ Cryer announced on his Instagram that he will use his final year of eligibility and come back to play with Houston again in 2024-25.
Cryer averaged 32.1 minutes per game for the Coogs in 2023-24. He led UH with 15.5 points per game and shot a team-best 41.1% from the field.
With Jamal Shead expected to go to the NBA Draft, getting Cryer back is massive for the Cougars backcourt next season, and gives them a proven scorer and defender to count on for another year.
