Bill Self on Colorado’s Return: ‘Puts Us In Position to be the Third Most-Powerful League’

NCAA Basketball: Final Four-National Championship-Kansas vs North Carolina

While excitement levels are approaching an all-time high for fans of the Big 12 Conference, fans alone aren’t the only ones celebrating the new addition.

Kansas head basketball coach Bill Self chimed in on the recent addition of the Buffaloes saying, “I like it because I think Colorado brings others. If we’re going to get to 16, I think what has transpired certainly puts us in position to be the third most-powerful league in the country.”

Self continued by saying, “I think that can actually occur. I think Colorado was a big piece to allow that to occur. Now whether or not we go get three more from the Pac-12 or two more and one from the Big East, I mean I don’t know what we’re going to do, but I do think that Colorado puts us in certainly a better position with the Pac-12 than we were before.”

Colorado was one of the original founding members of the league back in 1996 and after leaving the conference for the Pac-12 in 2011, the Buffs are headed back home after 12 seasons away. The motion for the Buffs to join the conference was a unanimous decision by both the Colorado Board of Regents and Big 12 Presidents and Chancellors.

With just two days left in Brett Yormark’s first calendar year as the commissioner of the Big 12 Conference, expansion conversations are heating up faster than ever, and with how fast things can change in the world of conference realignment, everyone is officially on the clock.
