Colorado Crushes Attendance Record for Spring Game, Sells Out
Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders is on campus, there’s a ton of excitement and a record set to be on hand at Colorado’s annual spring game next month emphasizes that. The Black & Gold Day on April 22 is sold out with more than 45,000 expected in attendance, according to a report by Brian Howell of Buffzone and the Boulder Daily Camera.
The previous record was less than half as many, 17,800 back prior to the 2008 season, Howell points out. Over 57 previous Black & Gold Day events, it’s averaged only 6,103 people in attendance.
Set for a 2 p.m. CT/1 p.m. MT kickoff, the game will be broadcast on ESPN. Colorado alum Chris Fowler, Robert Griffin III and Quint Kessenich will serve as the talent for the contest.
Speaking to its magnitude, the Buffaloes spring game is the only one that will be televised by ESPN. Along with Georgia’s on ESPN2, it’s one of only two that will not be viewable solely by either streaming or on a conference network.
And while it’s sold out, for some students wanting to attend, a limited number of student tickets are still available for current Colorado Student Sports Pass holders to claim.
As part of the Black & Gold Day festivities, there are a number of other activities. Those include a Field Day presented by Children’s Hospital of Colorado in which inflatables and other games for kids are provided, field day activities with student-athletes from the Buffaloes’ other sports and an autograph session with current and former Colorado stars that played in the NFL. That will commence on Franklin Field from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. CT.
