NY Post’s Andrew Marchand on Big 12 Expansion: ‘Watch Colorado’

The Pac-12’s media rights negotiations, or lack thereof, have become a weekly storyline for those who follow college athletics, and this week is no different.
It was widely reported last week that the deadline for the conference to end its media rights madness was being pushed back yet again, this time to “late spring, earl summer.”
For months, we were expected to hear something before the calendar turned over to 2023, then it was by the end of March, then it became the second week of April, and now its become seasonal.
Another report last week stated that The CW, famous for “Gilmore Girls,” “Riverdale,” and “The Flash,” is now in the “bidding war” to land the Pac-12’s inventory.
If you can read between the lines, the Pac-12 isn’t any closer to a media rights deal now than it was when it opened up the floor for bidders late last summer, or at least the way that it seems.
The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand, who has followed this ordeal for months now, had an interesting note about the deadline being pushed back, and one that aligns with rumors from weeks ago.
“The Pac-12’s media rights agreement won’t be completed until late spring or early summer, according to The Athletic college football writers Stewart Mandel and Max Olsen,” Marchand writes. “They said The CW is now in play. We will add this to the conversation around potential defections from Pac-12 to the Big 12: Watch Colorado.”
Just about four weeks ago, Colorado’s Board of Regents met to discuss “legal advice on a specific matter” amid the Pac-12’s struggles to nail down a new deal. Could there be fire with all the smoke coming out of Boulder, Colorado? Perhaps, but we will just have to wait and see how everything plays out over the coming ̶w̶e̶e̶k̶s̶,̶ ̶m̶o̶n̶t̶h̶s̶,̶ ̶year as the Pac-12 tries to find a new business partner.
